Judges Sworn in to Act in Higher Posts

April 3, marked the swearing-in of eight judiciary members to higher offices for the Easter Term, officiated by His Excellency the Most Honorable Sir Patrick Allen, Governor-General. The ceremony, held at King’s House, saw judges taking on roles in both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court after reciting the Oath of Allegiance and the Judicial Oath.

Among those appointed are Justices Kissock Laing and Georgiana Fraser, who will serve as Judges of the Court of Appeal from April 8 to July 31. Additionally, Master Pamela Mason and Her Honour Opal Smith have been designated as Acting Puisne Judges from April 8 to July 31. Her Honour Tracey Ann Johnson has been appointed as a Puisne Judge from April 3 to July 31, and Master Stephany Orr has been assigned as Acting Puisne Judge from April 16 until further notice. Her Honour Christine McNeil and Her Honour Luciana Jackson have been appointed to act as Master-in-Chambers and Acting Master-in-Chambers, respectively.

In his address, the Governor-General emphasized the importance of the judiciary’s role in dispensing justice, urging the judges to continue serving with humility and understanding of societal diversity. He congratulated the appointees and expressed hope for their continued excellence.

Chief Justice Hon. Bryan Sykes commended the judges for their distinguished service, foreseeing their ongoing contributions leading to enhancements in the judicial system. President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Patrick Brooks, lauded the appointees, affirming their worthiness for the positions.

Responding on behalf of the newly appointed judges, Justice Laing expressed gratitude to the Judicial Service Commission for their trust and vowed to uphold high standards in their duties.
