Education Minister Endorses Newly Launched NRJ Foundation

Hon. Fayval Williams, Minister of Education and Youth, expressed her appreciation for the launch of the National Rums of Jamaica (NRJ) Foundation on Thursday, March 28, at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston. She lauded the Foundation as a prime example of corporate social responsibility, emphasizing the vital role of partnerships in the education sector.

Minister Williams highlighted the historical significance of charitable foundations in supporting ambitious students in their educational pursuits by providing crucial financial assistance. She noted that the Foundation’s goals align perfectly with the Ministry’s key policies and programs, particularly emphasizing technical and vocational education and training (TVET), as well as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) initiatives.

Addressing the Foundation’s inaugural scholarship, valued at $500,000 and aimed at two deserving students pursuing undergraduate degrees at select Jamaican universities in agriculture or engineering, Minister Williams commended this initiative.

Minister Pearnel Charles Jr., Minister of Labour and Social Security, echoed his support for the scholarship program, emphasizing its transformative potential for individuals and communities alike.

Martha Miller, Director of the NRJ Foundation, highlighted the organization’s commitment to community empowerment across Jamaica. She underscored the Foundation’s mission to bolster Jamaica’s future through community strengthening, with education as a central focus. Miller emphasized the Foundation’s dedication to fostering positive change since its establishment in April 2023, noting its role as NRJ’s philanthropic arm dedicated to advancing community development through education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
