Travel authorization protocols are now in effect for Jamaican nationals and non- nationals arriving on the island. Speaking during a digital press briefing on Friday June 12, Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced that both categories of persons will require a travel authorization document in order to enter the country. The move is part of measures implemented under the government’s controlled entry programme.
The Prime Minister said that two different portals for entry application have been set up on jamcovid19.moh.gov.jm and on visitjamaica.com.
Residents are required to apply using the former website Non-residents who are visiting the island for tourism or business purposes are required to use the latter.
Mr. Holness said that “the application process is the same, but the information requirements are slightly different. For example, for non-resident, the information for home quarantine assessment would not be required at this stage, as persons travelling for tourism will be staying at hotels or resorts defined in a resilient corridor under a stay -in-zone order”.
He however noted that a travel authorization document is not required to book a flight to Jamaica.
Meanwhile, under the new controlled entry programme, persons arriving on the island will be subjected to a health screening and risk assessment by health authorities at the different ports of entry. These assessments will include temperature checks, observation of symptoms, as well as an interview by a health officer.
Persons will also be sensitized of the various infection prevention protocols implemented by the government.
