Ed Sheeran was recording his latest podcast when he received an unexpected call from the British government. Sheeran, who’s been working nonstop since the pandemic, recently returned to the UK after a flying to the US for a promotional tour, and was taking part in a remote podcast interview.

Due to the pandemic restrictions, Ed Sheeran was required to quarantine upon returning from the U.S., when he received a call from Britain’s Home Office, that monitors international travellers who recently returned to the UK.

The 30-year-old was speaking to Harry Potter’s Oliver and James Phelps during his regular online podcast when he was forced to halt his show to take the phone call. While leaving the podcast live, Sheeran’s manager, Stuart Camp, who was also in the 4-way discussion, joked that it was like “being called by your teacher.”

The singer, who has recently been promoting his number one single “Bad Habits,” needed to confirm to the government that he was in fact at home and quarantining. If he had missed the call, he may have received a hefty fine or faced prosecution due to the strict quarantine requirements currently in place.

While Sheeran was unfazed by the podcast interruption, it certainly reminded his fans and all those watching, that they needed to also abide to the rules. Having recently become a father, Sheeran shared his thoughts on parenthood and was speaking about how the first 3 months had been the most difficult.

Admitting to being under pressure in both his professional and personal life, Sheeran admitted that “You cry if you get things wrong, you cry if the baby can’t sleep.” With the U.S. still classified as an “Amber country” on Britain’s list of countries impacted by pandemic restrictions, artists like Sheeran are required to stay home for at least 10 days, and take 2 PCR tests to be able to travel again.
